Importing products from a CSV file

When to use import

If you already keep your catalogue in a spreadsheet, or you are moving from another platform, importing a CSV file is far quicker than adding products one at a time. It is the fastest way to get a large catalogue into your store.

Prepare your file

Export or build a CSV where each row is a product and the columns hold the product's details — title, price, and the other fields you want to set. Save it as a standard comma-separated file with a header row.

A few things that keep imports clean:

• Keep one product per row with a clear header row at the top.
• Use plain numbers for prices, without currency symbols.
• Check for stray commas, quotes, and line breaks inside cells — the importer follows the standard CSV rules, so text containing commas should be quoted.
• Start with a small test file to confirm the format before importing everything.

Run the import

From the Products area, choose to import and upload your CSV. Storecrafto reads the file and creates the products from it.

The import is all-or-nothing: if any row has a problem, the whole file is rejected and nothing is created, rather than importing half a catalogue and leaving you to work out what is missing. That means a rejected import is safe — fix the row it flags and upload again.

After importing

Imported products come in ready for you to review. Open a few to check the details came through as expected, add images, and set each product to active when you are happy for it to appear on your storefront.

If an import is rejected, read the reason given, correct that row in your spreadsheet, and re-upload the file. Because nothing was created, you can iterate on the file safely until it goes through cleanly.
